There’s a lot to be said for an occasional lazy day in your jammies. Everyone needs that once in a while. If, however, you roll out of bed every morning, wait ‘til noon to brush your teeth and never put on any make-up while at home, here are a few reasons to rethink your “routine”.
Surprise Visit – Most of the time we appreciate a call before someone comes knocking on our door but sometimes that call comes only minutes before that someone is expecting to be invited in. If you take time to shower, fluff your hair and put on a little makeup every morning, you’re ready for unexpected company any time!
Emergencies – Your 2-year-old crams a marble up his nose. If you’re wearing yesterday’s lipstick on your forehead, you’re forced to choose between your toddler or your dignity. The two are neck in neck so just don’t put yourself in that position.
Happy Husband – Boys like pretty girls. Your husband has had a long day. The last thing he wants to come home to is you STILL in your Simpsons footy pajamas. Put on a little makeup and get dressed. Maybe even spritz yourself with a little body splash before he gets home. It doesn’t automatically mean you’re “suggesting something” but it reminds him that he’s worth it, and I guarantee he will be pleased to see the girl he married.
Mental Boost – There’s more mascara than meets the eye (no pun intended). A little makeup and your favorite shirt can do a lot more than make you appear sane. When you look good, you feel good… so sanity may not be as far off as you thought. Showering, getting dressed, putting on a little make-up and doing something with your hair (other than what it does on its own) is a subconscious way of telling yourself, “I’m ready for the day”, and more importantly, “I’m worth spending a few minutes on.”

This is the first article in a series that Ashley will be writing on various style topics including hair, make-up and fashion.
Ashley is a full-time homemaker with a husband who works an irregular schedule, two small children and two psychotic cats. She’ll be sharing ways to look your best on a busy schedule and a tight budget.
And by the way, I’m lucky enough to have her as my daughter-in-law!

Good point(s) and so true. I work from home and it does make a difference!
I agree.
Thank you for this. I needed to be reminded today!
You’re welcome. Thanks for stopping by.
All great points! I get so much more done when I take the time to actually get ready for the day. I also find that if I’m not being very productive, it helps to stop and go do all these things and I instantly feel better.
Definitely. I feel that way, too.
I agree- I think it helps you feel good if you look good. It is hard sometimes, especially being a stay at home mom to young kids, but for me it’s worth it so I’m a good role model for my girls. They can see that I’m a mommy but I can still be put-together, and I don’t want to embarrass my daughter when I drop her off or pick her up from school. lol ;p
Great comment. I love what you said about being an example to your daughters. That is SO important because they pick up on EVERYTHING!

I always tried to make sure I was up, showered and dressed when I was a SAHM, mostly because I felt better. Plus, it was always the day that I was doing carpool in my pjs or tank top with no bra that a child would have a melt down and need to be walked in!
Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
Oh, yeah! I can picture that! Murphy’s Law – the one day you’re not presentable is the day you have to present yourself!!!
Thanks for stopping by.
Since I don’t get to stay at home (yet) I use these rules when I am home sick. It is amazing how much better I feel just being dressed with my hair combed and my teeth brushed. I always make the bed as well and lay on top of it with a blanket.
I think so, too!
