Have you ever made a pie that required you to put aluminum foil around the edges to keep the edges from burning? I used to do that. It was a pain. And the foil always fell off.
Then about 10 years ago my mother-in-law got me Mrs. Anderson’s pie shield. Wow! It was SO much easier than trying to use foil.
The pie shield costs about $6.00 (they were about $12 when I got mine) and are definitely worth the money. I’ll admit that it’s one of those tools you could live without, but if you make very many pies, why would you want to?!

Patty is the whole plate part of the pie shield. I have a pie shield and it does not look anything like what I can see in the picture. Mine is a metal round circle to cover the edges but it is to big for the pies I make and I cannot use it to protect the edges. Do they make different sizes?
Mine is just like yours- a metal round circle with the center cut out. What size pie plate are you using? I have two different kinds of pie plates and both work well with the pie shield. I’m guessing you’re using pre-made crusts that come in the metal pans? Those might be too small for the pie shield. I use glass plates.
I don’t think the pie shield comes in different sizes. The reuseable pie plates are a standard size so the shield works with all of them.
