Believe It Or Not, You Can Shred Chicken in your Kitchen-Aid!

I’ve talked about this before, the miraculous discovery that my kitchen-aid paddle attachment will shred chicken (I also discovered that a regular hand mixer works, tooHate Shredding Chicken?   Don’t Have a Kitchen-Aid?  This is For You!).  No more forks and aching hands.  Throw it in, chop it up and you’re done!

But just in case you don’t believe me, because it definitely sounds too good to be true, here’s the proof:

Boil the chicken.  Remove from pan and place on cutting board.

Cut chicken breasts into halves.  I don’t know if you absolutely have to do this but I did.

Put the chicken in the kitchen-aid bowl with the paddle attachment.

Process the chicken for about 45 seconds on low speed.  And there you have it – beautifully shredded chicken in a fraction of the time it takes with two forks.  If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it.

I have a friend who has a stand-up mixer that isn’t a Kitchen-Aid.  Her mixer has two beaters instead of one paddle.  She tried shredding her chicken with her mixer and it worked just fine.

So next time you need shredded chicken, skip the forks and use your Kitchen-Aid.  It’s a miracle!!!

  1. I finally tried this after pinning it a long time ago. Hands down this is the BEST kitchen tip I’ve seen in a long time. It was incredible how easy it made shredding chicken. I loved this so much I posted a link to your post on my FB page. THANK YOU, this is indeed life-changing!

    • Thank you so much!

I considered it life changing, too. You should have heard me after I tried it. My husband wondered what the heck was going on. I was completely freaking out at how awesome it was (and is!). I still can’t believe it worked. With a hand mixer, too! Now I actually look forward to shredding chicken.

  2. After reading about this a long time ago I finally gave it a try tonight! It worked! Wow! It took longer than 45 seconds for a pound and a half of chicken breasts but it did work.

    • Isn’t it awesome! You can also do it with your hand held mixer. It works great that way, too.

I never shred chicken with 2 forks anymore. This method is so easy!

Did you cut your chicken into a few chunks? That makes it shred faster. Tenders also shred faster than breasts.

  3. I LOOOOOVE this tip!! Just used it so I can have some shredded BBQ chicken. Did a better job than I would have by hand. :)

    • Me, too!!! The first time I did it I was ecstatic! I hate shredding chicken but I do it a lot. This method makes it SO easy! I’ve tried to spread the word to other homemakers because it’s so awesome.

  4. I can’t wait to try this! I don’t like much meat, but I can use shredded chicken in lots of stuff. Unfortunately, since I have carpal tunnel, I don’t have it as often as I should. The shredding hurts too much. This could truly be life changing for me. Thanks!

    • Robin – it will be! I use shredded chicken a lot but HATE shredding it with the forks. I haven’t done it that way since I discovered using the mixer. I really didn’t believe it would work but it’s AWESOME! Let me know what you think.
