When Your Best Friend Needs a Planner

Suzanne and I have been best friends for 34 years. We met when we were newlyweds and stayed friends through the early years of marriage, having and raising children, empty nests and now grandchildren.  We don’t live in the same state anymore but it doesn’t stop us from being best friends!

Through the years, I’ve always had a planner while Suzanne wasn’t really interested.  She’s dabbled with calendars but the closest she’s come to a planner, as far as I know, was the Erin Condren Planner.

But now she needs a planner.  She’s been looking on-line at ALL the options and asking me questions and she finally took the plunge and bought a planner – if you could call it that.  It was inexpensive and she got what she paid for.  It wasn’t really a planner and it wasn’t what she wanted.

Suzanne is going through a lot of tough stuff right now so she decided to stick with what she’s using – at least for now.  But being the planner nerd that I am, I couldn’t let that happen.  Using my stash, I put together a planner for her.  It’s not perfect but it will do the job and give her an opportunity to try some things out and figure out exactly what she wants.  Sometimes you need to try before you buy!

My best friend’s planner is on its way!  I hope it works better for her than that other planner she bought and that when she uses it, she remembers how special she is to me!  Happy planning, my friend.

  1. This is amazing! It’s so easy to look at things online, even after “knowing” things about planners, and *still* not really know what you ought to buy!
And, you’ve done a great thing, in showing your friend that there are plenty of different layouts to try online, with nothing out of pocket to pay for them (people on the Internet are kind of the best sometimes!). If one of those layouts don’t turn out to work for her, you’ve put her in the right direction to be able to find something that may work better…without having to feel bad about spending money on it right out of the gate! 🙂

  2. Looks like you have a real talent for creating planners. Perhaps you need your own brand? 🙂 I bet your best friend will love it!

  3. This looks fantastic! This will give her a great start and from this she’ll be able to get an idea of what works and what she can tweak. You’re a great friend! I hope this helps her a lot.

    1. Thanks, Laurie. It was hard not to put more stuff in there but I didn’t want to overwhelm her so I kept it simple. I hope it does help and that she loves it.

  4. That was so sweet of you! I’m sure she will appreciate it.

I have a quick newbie question. What is the purpose of the page lifters? Thanks!

    1. When you close your planner, they make it easier for the pages to move straight out in the planner instead of getting hung up on the rings. If you close your planner without a page lifter and look at the pages, the top and bottom pages tend to be “hung up”. The page lifters keep them from doing that. Does that make sense? It’s a simple concept but hard to put it writing. Maybe I’ll write a post about that sometime.

  5. Great job!
I love sharing the planner love for people that are interested! I gave my Dad one as a Father’s day gift & he loved it. Then one of my friends & her husband both came to me saying that they needed help choosing one. It’s really nice to be able to help & share the interest with them

  6. The title of this cracked me up, because I read it as when your friend doesn’t think they need a planner, but you know that they do. (Based on a real life experience yesterday, names withheld to protect the unorganized.)
Anyway, this is a great gift for your friend. You have to know someone pretty well to be able to know what kind of organizer they will like and use. I’m sure your friend will think of you whenever she uses this.
