Bye Bye Brown Bananas

While purchasing some fruit at Walmart, I saw “The Banana Keeper” for sale on a shelf just beneath the bananas.  I read the box for quite some time, knowing that our bananas ALWAYS ripen too fast but not wanting to waste the money on something that was going to be…well…a waste of money.   I took the plunge.

Four days later, the three bananas that were left hanging there were sunshine yellow with no bruises and no leopard spots.  I couldn’t believe it!  I’ve been singing this small piece of plastic’s praises ever since.

It works because:

1. They are not sitting on a solid surface to be bruised and abused.
2. Other ripening fruit ( apples, pears, peaches) emit gases. If your bananas are sitting on top those other ripening fruits (i.e. in your fruit bowl on the counter) those gases cause the bananas to spoil faster.
3. The equal air-flow all around the bananas as they hang causes them to ripen slower and much more evenly.

So, if you like bananas, make the bananas like you back!  Your bananas will thank you and will return the favor!
