Chocolate Nut Cookies

Need something quick and easy to take to your Fourth of July celebration?  Try these cookies.  This recipe is from my friend, Nancy Simons.  I love these cookies so much
that I can’t make them very often because I can’t stop eating them!  So I make them when I will be sharing.

Cream together:

  • ½ cup shortening
  • ½ cup butter or margarine

Add to butter mixture:

  • 1 cup brown sugar

Add:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour

Spread batter on cookie sheets and bake at 350 for 15 minutes (watch the time – you don’t want them too done).  Lay eight Hershey candy bars on top and let melt (sometimes I use a 12-ounce package of milk chocolate chips).  Spread evenly and sprinkle with chopped pecans (some people don’t like nuts so I do half with pecans and half without)Cut
while hot
