Journaling: Use Your Calendar!

Calendars aren’t just for recording appointments.  They can also be used for recording memories.  You know, those special moments you think you’ll remember forever but then you forget.

When my kids were little, I used a week-at-a-glance calendar for my appointments and a steno pad for my to-do list.  I recorded appointments on the calendar but I also recorded little moments that I wanted to remember.  It only took a few seconds but those few
seconds gave me memories I’ll have forever.

Here’s a sample from my week-at-a-glance calendar:

Later I switched to a Franklin Covey planner.  I continued to record memories only there
were more of them since the kids were older and doing more.  I love looking back through those books and seeing what was going on in our lives.  And again, it only took a few minutes at the end of the day to write that stuff down.

Here’s a sample from those days:

So if you still use a paper calendar, don’t limit it to just appointments.  Record those moments so you can remember them forever.  And who knows, one day they might be useful for something besides just reminiscing (and that’s an article for another day!)
