My family breaks glass. We’re not as bad as we used to be, but we still have to be very careful. A couple of years ago I broke the glass lid on my favorite pan. I was broken-hearted. Not only was it my favorite pan but it had a steamer insert I used all the time.
For several years I used the pan without the lid and purchased a new steamer pan that I didn’t like nearly as well.
But guess what? I accidentally discovered that you can buy generic replacement lids at any store that sells kitchen stuff. I found my lid at Wal-mart for $5.00. It fit my pan perfectly and I was able to use my pan and my steamer again!
So if you have a pan without a lid, before tossing it, shop around and see if you can find a replacement. And by the way, that applies to other kitchen items, too. If one of your pans or appliances is broken or missing a part, check at your local kitchen store or with the manufacturer to see if you can buy replacement parts. Sometimes it makes more sense to fix it than to toss it.
