The Levels of The Planner

Let’s face it – life is insanely busy!  (If you disagree, you need to go back to the mother-ship.)  I believe, in order not to walk off a cliff, everyone needs some type of planning device.  Don’t freak out.  First let me explain my generalization.

Everyone is SO different in personality, organization and their place in life that the same tool simply won’t work for everyone.  That’s where the level of the planner comes into play.

LEVEL 1:  The Calendar - Simple but reliable. Someone with a solid head on their shoulders and a fairly predictable schedule can use a calendar for appointments and little extras that might possibly slip the normal human mind.  Along with a note book, a calendar can be quite functional for an already structured life and person.

LEVEL 2: Week at a Glance - This is a weekly format where one can plan a week in a little more detail. This is great for someone with a more complicated schedule.  It’s also good for someone who wants a short daily task list written in the same place as their calendar or needs somewhere to document small notes about home or job. These are simpler and easy to find at any office supply store.  This is my current level.

LEVEL 3:  The Nerd Planner – This is often a ring-bound beauty and is normally carried by the business man or woman or the homemaker on call. This is for someone who has a CRAZY life – someone without a set schedule, someone with ADD who needs to write everything down in order to function, and /or someone who wants EVERYTHING contained in one place.

I started off with The Nerd Planner and realized it was way too much for my current schedule.  I down-graded to the Week-at-a-Glance and have been much more  functional. You don’t want too much or you’ll have empty pages but you don’t want too little or you’ll be missing the little details that make the world go ’round.  Go find your planner level!
