Find Your Planner Level

FIND your planner level

Let’s face it – life is insanely busy!  (If you disagree, you need to go back to the mother-ship.)  I believe, in order not to walk off a cliff, everyone needs some type of planning device.  Don’t freak out.  First let me explain my generalization.

Everyone is SO different in personality, organization and their place in life that the same tool simply won’t work for everyone.  That’s where the level of the planner comes into play.

LEVEL 1:  The Calendar – Simple but reliable. Someone with a solid head on their shoulders and a fairly predictable schedule can use a calendar for appointments and little extras that might possibly slip the normal human mind.  Along with a note-book, a calendar can be quite functional for an already structured life and person.

LEVEL 2: Week at a Glance – This is a weekly format where one can plan a week in a little more detail. This is great for someone with a more complicated schedule.  It’s also good for someone who wants a short daily task list written in the same place as their calendar or needs somewhere to document small notes about home or job. These are simpler and easy to find at any office supply store.  This is my current level.

LEVEL 3:  The Nerd Planner – This is often a ring-bound beauty and is normally carried by the business man or woman or the homemaker on call. This is for someone who has a CRAZY life – someone without a set schedule, someone with ADD who needs to write everything down in order to function, and /or someone who wants EVERYTHING contained in one place.

I started off with The Nerd Planner and realized it was way too much for my current schedule.  I down-graded to the Week-at-a-Glance and have been much more  functional. You don’t want too much or you’ll have empty pages but you don’t want too little or you’ll be missing the little details that make the world go ’round.  Go find your planner level!

    1. Yep – a “nerd planner” and proud of it! You know what, though, my daughter-in-law, who wrote that post, has a nerd planner now. Eventually everyone converts! Nerd planners are the way to go!!!

  1. LOL What if you use a digital planner/program like Outlook? Before I had my smart phone, I printed my calender, contacts, to do list and put it in a beautiful leather binder with a zipper. It had a place for a pen, notepad, hole punch, zipper bag, slots for id, credit cards, etc. etc. etc. Now, I have my smartphone, so no.more paper but all.that info in one tidy place. I must be super nerdy! 🙂 Great post by the way.

  2. Hi

Preparing to get my 2017 Planner and was thinking of a Nerd Planner. Thanks for the article. You made my decision for me. Sticking with the very best planner I have ever used for time management. The Planner Pad. Not much room to decorate but, without a doubt the most useful ever for the job at hand. I saw a review on Youtube about one against three others. The person did a great job reviewing as far as voice, etc. However, she did not know that much about the Planner Pad! For one basic thing she did not know it came in other colors beside black. But, I was going to go to a binder. Am sticking with my Executive spiral bound. ALL IT DOES is time management of things to do and uses the funnel system. Nothing else in the book to distract a person such as journal sections etc. If you want to journal keep a separate journal such as a bullet journal. All of the above brought to you by my humble opinion! However, I read this article while in Dr’s office and have to say that you made my day and my decision which was turning into a project itself.
