My son’s favorite desserts all consist of peanut butter and chocolate combinations. His top three include Peanut Butter Bars, Peanut Butter Balls and Puppy Chow. I have no clue which of the three is his favorite. All I know is he’s coming over for dinner tonight and I’m making Puppy Chow. He’s going to be thrilled!
Ingredients & Directions:
Pour a 12-ounce box of crispix cereal into a large plastic container with a tight lid. Set aside.
In a medium-sized saucepan, melt 2 sticks margarine, 1 cup peanut butter, and 12 oz. chocolate chips.
Pour the chocolate mixture over the cereal and stir gently so all the cereal pieces are covered with chocolate.
Pour 1 pound of powdered sugar over the cereal mixture. Put the lid on the container and shake the container until all the cereal pieces are coated with sugar. The pieces should be more white than brown. If they’re still brown, you may need to add more a little more powdered sugar.
At this point I usually move the Puppy Chow from the messy plastic container to my glass Dutch oven. This was my dish of choice when the kids were home. No matter how careful they were, I could usually hear when they were trying to sneak some Puppy Chow.
By the way, when you’re moving the puppy chow to the serving dish, don’t just dump it. There are a lot of crumbs and some extra powdered sugar at the bottom of the dish. It’s not a big deal but I never wanted that stuff in the serving dish.
