Calico Bean Bake

I’ve been making the Calico Bean Bake for a long time.  It’s easy and pretty good for you.  I got this recipe from my long-time friend, Trace Rohde.  I like to serve it with steamed vegetables and Italian bread.

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 med. onion, chopped
  • 3 strips bacon (I usually just use 2 small bags of real bacon bits)
  • 1 (16 oz.) can pork & beans
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup catsup
  • 1 tbsp. prepared mustard
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 (16 oz.) can Great Northern beans*
  • 1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans*
  • 1 (16 oz.) can butter beans*

*Drain some liquid off.

In a skillet, brown hamburger with onion.  Drain.  Mix hamburger mixture and remaining  ingredients in large casserole dish.  Bake at 350 for 1-1/4 hours or several hours in a crock pot.
