Teachin ‘bout Bleachin’

Okay, bleach is a sensitive subject.  A lot of people hear the word bleach and run screaming the other direction.  It’s not, however as scary as some people think. Bleach is powerful, and with great power comes great responsibility . . . but all you need is a little Clorox education!

Laundry – Did you know that you can use a little bleach in your COLORED laundry to kick germs and bacteria?  Throw in your load like normal and let the cycle start up.  Wait 5 minutes and then add a tablespoon or two of chlorine bleach. (A lot of washers have a small separate spot to add the bleach.) I learned this tip when I was cloth diapering
with colored Bum Genius diapers.  They are colored, but with bleaching done right, the colors stayed vibrant and the poo-poo was gone!

Cleaning – Mixing 1 part bleach and 3 parts warm water is a great way to disinfect lots of things! Toys, bottles, cups, hardware and even dishes sometimes need an extra boost.  Let them soak about 15 minutes and then rinse.  Adding a little to your toilet water when cleaning the bathroom can help beat stains and kill germs and bacteria, too.

In its concentrated form, bleach can and will take out color on fabrics so I would wear an apron or old clothes when cleaning with bleach.  I believe in disinfecting every now and then to keep my family healthy and bleach is the epitome of clean!

Be Brave, Oh Clean One! Try it!

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been wondering about adding bleach to colored laundry for years and have not been able to find the answer. I am so very excited! Off to do laundry!
